We will begin power generation and self-consumption in Wakayama Works from October of this year.

On-site PPA:
Solar power generation facilities are introduced on a company's premises by a third-party PPA operator. The company procures the electricity by paying electricity rates to PPA operators.

On-site PPA models introduced in Wakayama Works

In October 2023, Wakayama Works began full-scale operations to produce ball bearings used in electric vehicles (EVs)*2. At Wakayama Works, by utilizing the latest equipment, systems, and digital technologies, NTN is working to manufacture products without waste as a practical factory for our smart factory. The Wakayama Works has reduced monthly CO2 emissions by approximately 85% compared to using normal electricity by using CO2-free electricity in the facility and its offices. The new on-site PPA system is expected to reduce CO2 emission of 589 tons (1357 MWh/year).

Initiatives of NTN Group toward carbon neutrality

NTN Group identifies 13 items of materiality (key issues) that should be prioritized toward achieving SDGs and promotes initiatives to achieve the targets set for each item. In the area of “Respond to climate change,” one of our materiality, we are pursuing saving energy performance of our main products of bearings and driveshafts. We are also contributing to the growth of the renewable energy market by developing and providing “NTN Green Power Station” and “N3 N-CUBE,” which are independent power supplies that use products for wind turbine and renewable energy. In addition to developing products, we are also working to reduce CO2 emissions in manufacturing, logistics, and other business activities, and to reduce environmental impact throughout the supply chain.

NTN has further accelerated these efforts and set a carbon neutral target of zero CO2 emissions within the Group (scope 1 and scope 2) by FY2035 and zero CO2 emissions in the supply chain (scope 3) by FY2050. Our Group companies around the world are also promoting the introduction of PPA models, visualization of electricity consumed at manufacturing sites, introduction of renewable electricity, and introduction of internal carbon pricing in capital expenditures (CO2 emission pricing of facilities).

NTN will continue to expand and introduce PPA models at its domestic and overseas bases and will further promote efforts to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the Group.
